Our story

how it all started

“Hello! It’s Kaisa and Olli here.

We are happy that you are interested in staying in our cosy and well-equipped villas in Aavasaksa. We have taken a serious thought in nature, wellness and relaxation for your convenience. In addition, we want to play our part in developing sustainable tourism in Tornio Valley, Lapland.

Our path becoming travel entrepreneurs began already a few years ago, when we started dreaming of our own travel-related business. We founded WALD Nordic in 2022 aiming to offer successful and smooth travel experience from beginning to end. Step by step also the idea of WALD Villas was born, and quite a lot has happened in less than a year!

We find Aavasaksa very versatile, interesting and peaceful destination all year round, and Tornio River Valley is dear for both of us. We're both from Northern Finland, and we spend most of our vacations at our own cottage by the Tornio river.

And now, three responsible, high-quality log cabins with spa-room and wood-heated outdoor saunas are ready to welcome visitors in Aavasaksa, Lapland. This is the beginning of something new and exciting!

We want to offer you a memorable stay in Aavasaksa, and have gathered plenty of information about the area of Tornio River Valley services, activities and interesting places to visit. No matter what time of the year you’ll arrive, it is much to see and do!

And remember – it is always possible to close your mobile phone and just relax in the atmosphere of the cosy log cabin and enjoy the enchanting nature around it. Big windows will ensure that you’ll get your daily dose of forest, even if you decide to stay inside.

Have a memorable stay in WALD Villas!

The WALD Nordic Travel project

Our WALD Nordic Travel project started in June 2024, and it is connected to a new year-round, high-quality and sustainable accommodation in the Tornionlaakso area. The primary goal of the project is to build WALD Villas Aavasaksa, a three-cottage accommodation area. Pre-tailored program services, transfer services and equipment rental are also provided, both independently and in cooperation with other operators.

The project's largest and most significant investment is the construction of the accommodation area, which requires a considerable investment at the beginning in order to make the operations large enough, and expand the business in the near future.

The project is connected to the international development of tourism in Tornionlaakso and especially to the utilization and development of the old tourist area, Aavasaksa. The goal of the project is to increase quality and responsible accommodation in the area, attract more international tourists to the area throughout the year and also strengthen the provision of various ancillary services that support tourism in cooperation with other operators.

The WALD Nordic Travel project (2.6.2023-31.12.2024) has been co-funded by the European Union.
